MANAGING REMOTE TEAMS (2 day)

 

 

Remote teams and remote workers have always been a feature of organisational life but the growth in electronic communications and national and international trade have increased this form of team working.

 

Where employees are not within the day-to-day observation of their manager and are beyond easy access different working arrangements and people issues arise. Managing in this situation requires a different and more innovative approach than more conventional working arrangements.

 

This course aims to explore the issues involved and provide managers with insight and understanding so that they can more effectively manage their own remote teams.

 

 

Content:

 

Types of remote teams - local, national, international, home-workers etc

The importance of setting objectives and delegating authority

Defining timescales and the importance of keeping to deadlines

Setting good performance targets to achieve results

Choosing the right people for a remote team

The necessity of dealing effectively with different cultures

Choosing the most appropriate means of communication and using them effectively

Using business meetings to keep in touch and maintain control

Building a sense of belonging amongst team members - the importance of social interaction

Motivating team members; using personality profiling

Using an appropriate leadership style for remote teams

 

Method:

 

The course will be interactive with a practical approach where participants will be encouraged to consider their own situations in the light of what is presented. Case studies and exercises will be used to bring out the various topics and to give participants practise in dealing with these. Participants will be encouraged to produce action plans for implementation on their return to work.
